Wood Carver: Brian Climie
Brian graduated with a Poutuarongo Toi Whakarākai (Bachelor of Design and A.R.T.) in 2012 from Te Wānanga o Raukawa in Ōtaki. He carved in the second phase of creating Poupou for Te Ara a Tawhaki, at Te Wānanga o Raukawa. Since 2017, Brian has taught carving at Toi Whakarākai.
Brian is passionate about teaching carving at Toi Whakarākai. He disseminates his knowledge and experience in wood carving with ease of instruction to students and accesses with ease, ways that can support each individual student as they grapple with new techniques and form.
Brians carving is defined by functional form and refined carved detail. Brian has exhibited with Māorilands' Toi Matarau gallery in Ōtaki, Mahara gallery at Waikanae and Māpuna Kabinet gallery at Te Awahou Nieuwe Stroom, Foxton.
