Artist: Darrin Jenkins

Darin Jenkins is not a name commonly heard on the Artist Symposium Trails. However, you mention his name in the Hauraki Thames area, it is not unusual to hear the locals admiration and respect. Darin has been a contemporary & traditional carver for his iwi, hapū, whānau and community for over 20 years. He has contributed to many of the local projects, kaupapa and commissions, as well as teaching at kura kaupapa Māori for the last 2 decades. He is found working either collaboratively, with other local artists and sculptors or quietly tapping away at home creating solo works.

In April of this year Darin found himself supporting and participating in a Wood Symposium run by
Fellow Carver and Mentor Rika Turoa. The Symposium “Ngākau o te Rākau ōki” was his return back into the Symposium arena after nearly 7 years away.
