Artist: Ezra Bevan

I have been learning the art of raranga & whatu for the past 13 years, learning tips, tricks, and techniques from various local weavers I have had the privilege of being surrounded by. I am currently employed by Te Wānanga o Raukawa as one of 3 weaving tutors. I draw inspiration from the many kākahu and kete ive seen on my journey this far ranging from traditional to contemporary styles and the people who have woven them. I have exhibited works along side many talented artists in exhibits such as Toi Matarau at Māori lands, Te Awahou Nieuwe stroom, and Ōtaki Library. I love all forms of Māori weaving and often find my self going through cycles of being caught between phases of either “raranga” or “whatu” allowing me to express creativity in different ways.
